![]() ![]() That was our goal, that was our target destination. This, in theory, would take us to sort of the top of Poison Mountain, where the road sign is located. It was a nice wildlife moment.įor the last little push we were off the main road and on a fun little 4X4 track. Up on the highside, only 20 m away, he watched us as we watched him back. It wasn’t much further up the road, in an open area, that a large black bear ran across the road in front of me. The road had A TON of bear prints in it so we stopped to check them out. It was clear no traffic had come this way in quite some time. After what we had done the previous day it seemed silly and so simple. The gate back at Red Mountain was easy to go under. This was one of the few times I had my XD-4 visor down. High on the open roads Alberto described it as Star Wars as the bugs came flying at you in hoards and you had to dodge them because they hurt on the bare skin. So there we were heading back to the gate I had so easily dismissed with my map showing an alternate way. We had tried to respect the barrier and find another way, but that just didn’t work out and the detour back to Lillooet via Dog Creek was significant. Screw that gate we encountered on Red Mountain, this was serious. We all woke up with a new lease on life, yesterday was in the past and we had a plan today. Alberto went off to explore and evaluate the promise of one particularly muddy road and on his return got hopelessly stuck in the deep mud on the uphill. ![]() ![]() Instead of just one road to follow now there was many side roads and were having to play “what’s behind door number one” by selecting roads that we hoped would lead us where we needed to go. Another 15 minutes or so down the road things were getting sketchy. Some offroading around a log and then straight over some logs. We had come so far so we soldiered on through barrier four. There were lots of gouged out ditches for drainage? Traffic deterrents? Either way we were moving slow between those bike eaters and the ruts in the loose dirt.īarrier four came into view and by this point we were getting tired but we were only 3km as the crow flies from the road we wanted to get on. The surface was not hard packed, indicating that the road had been recently built? This was not looking good, but at least we could see that we were heading in the direction of the road we wanted (thanks to the modern conveniences of GPS technology). ![]()
